Using modern digital imaging methods, we can restore precious old photos without affecting the original. We can:
- fix fading, scratches, tears and missing corners, remove 'red eye';
- correct exposure and colour balance faults;
- correct yellowing and aging;
- turn black & white or colour photos into "antiqued" sepia tone images;
- convert black and white images into subtle coloured versions
- work from slides or negatives;
- change or remove distracting backgrounds;
- remove individuals from group photographs to make portraits;
- move or remove people to improve the composition of the photograph;
- even merge different photos together;
- turn your favourite holiday snap into a realistic ‘painting’;
- create a montage of several photographs to commemorate a special event or celebration;
So, what happens to your photograph when you entrust it to our care?
Firstly, and very importantly, you must ensure that your photograph is packaged properly. Send it in a card backed photographic envelope, clearly marked, "Photographs - please do not bend".To alleviate the danger of your photograph suffering from dampness it is wise to place it in an acid free plastic pocket inside the envelope. Please send the packet by recorded delivery.
When your photograph arrives it is carefully opened and an assessment of the damage is made. Assuming your requirements are clearly stated in a covering letter or order form we will estimate the time required for the work and contact you with a quotation for the work to be done. If you accept the quotation then we will scan the photograph and keep it in a safe environment until it is returned to you with your renovated photographs. If you do not want us to do the work then your original will be returned to you and no charge will be made.
Scanning is carried out on a high resolution scanner specially designed for photographic work. This allows your photograph to be enlarged, should you require it, with no loss of resolution when it is printed. It also means the tiniest faults can be cleaned up accurately.
Printing is carried out on an inkjet printer which can print to very high resolution (2880 x 1440 dpi) and which uses pigment based inks. Ordinary inkjet printers use dye based inks which do not have the longevity of pigment based inks. The manufacturers claim that using archival paper with pigment based ink means your prints should not fade in 75 years. However, this does assume that the prints are kept in an environment that is conducive to longevity.
Before we commit to printing on photographic paper we send a draft copy laser print of the work completed for your approval accompanied by an invoice. If you are happy with the result you send us payment for the work and we will return your original photograph with your renovated prints. Please note that a charge is made for postage and packing which is dependant on the size of the order. All packages will be returned by recorded delivery.
